1962

The over-all picture is winter
icy mountains
in the background the return

from the hunt it is toward evening
from the left
sturdy hunters lead in

their pack the inn-sign
hanging from
a broken hinge is a stag a crucifix

between his antlers the cold
inn yard
is deserted but for a huge bonfire

that flares wind-driven it is tended by
women who cluster
about it to the right beyond

the hill is a pattern of skaters
Brueghel the painter
concerned with it all has chosen

a winter-struck bush for his
foreground to
complete the picture.

The general meaning is the description of a picture that talks about the hunters in the winter.

The detailed meaning is how lives the hunters during the winter, with the harsh weather and how the painter has chosen the things or the objects that wanted to paint and show the reality of the people. May be the history is created by the painter and that situation does not exist.

The poet’s intention are illustrated the truth about their people and how they feel in that place or situation. May be the poet is trying to say how a family live when they have been through difficult times and how they sort out all the problems with the familly, relatives and also the comunity, all this is said in the poem “hanging from
a broken hinge is a stag a crucifix… inn yard is deserted but for a huge bonfire that flares wind-driven it is tended by women who cluster about it to the right beyond…”
