Robert Hershon was born in 1936 and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He is the author of eleven books of poetry, of which The German Lunatic is the most recent. Among his awards are two creative writing fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. He also serves as co-editor of Hanging Loose Press.

Beautiful. Makes me remember something my dad told right after my grandfather died. “I didn’t realize he was old until I understood we had walked all the way around the driveway to avoid stepping up on a curb.”
This poem makes me want to rush home and enjoy my children before they grow up.
