God in his wisdom made the fly
And then forgot to tell us why.

I have long had a memory of Ogden Nash;s poem of The Fly as the following:
“I wonder, God in his infinite wisdom why
on earth he ever made the fly.”
Is there no textual basis for this? It actually sounds more Nash-like than the two lines quoted above.
