Me from Myself — to banish —
Had I Art —
Impregnable my Fortress
Unto All Heart —

But since Myself — assault Me —
How have I peace
Except by subjugating
Consciousness?

And since We’re mutual Monarch
How this be
Except by Abdication —
Me — of Me?

I do not get the meaning of the poem exactly. I am interested to know its meaning.

I heard this poem in a lecture by a man named Zimm and the subject was mindfulness. I have been intrigued by Emily Dickenson’s poetry for many years. I would like to hear from others their thinking about this poem.
