Lovers, forget your love,
And list to the love of these,
She a window flower,
And he a winter breeze.
When the frosty window veil
Was melted down at noon,
And the cagèd yellow bird
Hung over her in tune,
He marked her through the pane,
He could not help but mark,
And only passed her by,
To come again at dark.
He was a winter wind,
Concerned with ice and snow,
Dead weeds and unmated birds,
And little of love could know.
But he sighed upon the sill,
He gave the sash a shake,
As witness all within
Who lay that night awake.
Perchance he half prevailed
To win her for the flight
From the firelit looking-glass
And warm stove-window light.
But the flower leaned aside
And thought of naught to say,
And morning found the breeze
A hundred miles away.
has anyone ever though of the wind (man) being a player, trying to get to the flower (woman) but being stopped by the window (third party)? just think about it…
A cold person tries to court a warm one.
i think that the wind(boy)s haert is broken by her. he dosnt under stand why they cant be together like romeo and juliet.
ok i think the part about the caged bird and Frosty veil is nothing more than imagry just trying to set up the scene. When he marks her through the window he noticed her. the Wind(boy) is a young boy that knows more about boy things but is naive about love. he comes over to see her and try to get her to get her to leave with him but she said blows him off and he leaves..
I’m not a poem critic.but it seems to me ‘he marked her through the pane’ means simply to notice the flower.like we notice someone special.Ofcourse here the flower is the girl, living in a small world, calm & quiet, allowed to watch the world from inside the window.her love is silent. And the boy is the winter wind, the proof reader of destruction.he shows his love in every way he can.Their differences in nature & limitations to stay aside made the flower to refuse the wind in silence,in pain.
Im having alittle trouble analysing this poem. I have estaablished the fact the the winter breeze is the boy and the window flower is the girl, but im not understanidng the relationship beween the two line for line.
I know that their is a love connection between the two,
“when the frosty winter veil was melted over at noon, and the caged yellow bird hungover her in tune”
these lines have to do with imeragery, i can imagine the winter frost blew by the flower at night, but by noon, any proof of him being there was melted away.
“he marked her through the pain, he could not help but mark, and only passed her by, to come again at dark”
i dont understand these lines? is he hurting her???
i think this poem is the best that is why i am doing a report on it
i think its absoulutly marvoulessssss!!!!! how bout you molly–i think its vantasticly fabulistic

i loved this poem. definetly my favvorritee.
props to old frosty. :]
I can relate myself thru this poem very much. My heart has been broken too a lot of times already to the only girl whom I love the most. She’s the first and last girl for me I guess. Though it takes a lot of sacrifice to win her heart. Whenever she takes me for granted I feel upset. Therefore this poem suits my love experience as well. Moreover, this fine piece of work by Mr. Frost is absolutely touching.
I love Robert Frost, and this is truely one of his most wonderful pieces of work.
what a grea poem, i cant sya it enough, its sad, and hits hard the feeling. its a whole story, jus perfect

This is also my favorite Robert Frost poem. I can’t beleive it’s not one of his more famous ones. It’s an amazing, tragic, real to life, love story.. The classic lost love. Most people can relate to at least part of that poem!
Frost did once have his heart broken. He is the wind and the window flower is the boy that broke his heart.
My friends showed me this poem today and from the moment i read it, it became my favorite of all of Robert Frost’s poems. It is so beautiful the way he speaks about love and life; he is my all time favorite poet.
this is my favorite poem by Frost. i memorized it when i was younger. it is of taking a chance, it’s sensual, it’s sad. it’s about love lost.
I think this poem was the most woderful poem I ever read!!
I think Frost is relating this poem to his life. He did once have his heart broken. He is the wind, and the window flower is the girl that broke his heart.
