When I was home de
Sunshine seemed like gold.
When I was home de
Sunshine seemed like gold.
Since I come up North de
Whole damn world’s turned cold.

I was a good boy,
Never done no wrong.
Yes, I was a good boy,
Never done no wrong,
But this world is weary
An’ de road is hard an’ long.

I fell in love with
A gal I thought was kind.
Fell in love with
A gal I thought was kind.
She made me lose ma money
An’ almost lose ma mind.

Weary, weary,
Weary early in de morn.
Weary, weary,
Early, early in de morn.
I’s so weary
I wish I’d never been born.

  3. Dana says:

Mr Hughes is clearly influenced by elements of the blues which is shown through the structure in terms of the repeats (AAB pattern)as well as the themes. This allows for a more accurate portrayal of the feelings of Negro’s in that period. This point is further supported as Hughes assumes the character of the young boy and uses the blues to develop a way of authenticating the typicalexperiences of a young black boy at the time.

  6. Tommy Chong says:

The way Langston Hughes is able to portra the fallicies of a Black man in a white society give me chills. The tribulations the African Americans faced was a daily occurence. Hughes does not attack this society but rather conveys the corruption of American society.

  11. courtney b says:

It was very deep, the flow of the poem was smooth.I like the fact that he repeats his same lines because if you don’t catch what he says the firs time or don’t understand, the second time around you can really understand what he’s trying to say.

  12. SHIRLEY says:

I LIKE THE PEOM VERY WELL, ITS JUST THE FACT THAT IN MOST OF HIS PEOMS HE REPEATS THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN,BUT IT IS VERY CREATIVE I WOULD DIE TO BE AS CRESTIVE AS HE IS IM NOT HATING AT ALL

  13. Jaki Brophy says:
