Sleep is supposed to be
By souls of sanity
The shutting of the eye.

Sleep is the station grand
Down which, on either hand
The hosts of witness stand!

Morn is supposed to be
By people of degree
The breaking of the Day.

Morning has not occurred!

That shall Aurora be —
East of Eternity —
One with the banner gay —
One in the red array —
That is the break of Day!

i think that this poem is about how people do not open their eyes up to the beauty of the world.Sleep is the time of day when we are suppose to close our eyes not in the regular day

Hemmm! It is always nice to see people fascinated with Ms Dickinson; however i must not that this poem has lillte to do with sleep and more to do with the break of day. However this is just an observation and there is much more to be drawn out when it comes to the actual interpetation of the poem.
