Nobody knows this little Rose —
It might a pilgrim be
Did I not take it from the ways
And lift it up to thee.
Only a Bee will miss it —
Only a Butterfly,
Hastening from far journey —
On its breast to lie —
Only a Bird will wonder —
Only a Breeze will sigh —
Ah Little Rose — how easy
For such as thee to die!

  5. Olive says:

I think Emily Dickinson realized the fact that none of us is any more important/insignificant than the other because every one is the same. From the line “How easy for such as thee to die”, we can tell she is trying to point out and emphasis the insignificance of human life. People often say that her poems are depressing. However, to me, they are all great philosophy lessons.

i think we’re all agreed that this is a magnificent poem, i really liked your comments mark. but i also think the rest of you who post a comment merely to insult someone else really need to get a life, i dont care what country your from. USA, Australia, Canada, whatever, we all got problems. did ya ever stop to think that its the negative people emily dickinson was avoiding by staying shut up in her house? maybe emily thought the rose was lucky, it would be missed by only a few, but its life still had meaning and was beautiful, no matter how secluded.

  10. Mark Cooper says:

This poem is great, because it gives us a glance into Emily Dickinson’s soul, since she feels her life was a journey and she traveled it all alone and was so depressed, which is quite touching.

i just wanted to say that i agree w/Ashley #9 in this. i also think that we should all live life to its fullest. i think that even if some people don’t notice that you’re there that that’s okay because there has got to be someone who will notice. and even if some people don’t notice life always goes on. just do your best and you’ll get through it. hey at least the rose had a bee and a butterfly who would miss it. well, any ways i just think that this poem says a lot about every day life.
