The year is 2004 and Gabe Mapel, the young district attorney of a mountain resort town, is going through a tough time: He lost his leg while serving in Iraq; his father has died; he can't find a publisher for his war memoir; his erectile keeps dysfunctioning; and now George Bush has just been elected to four more years. To find direction in his floundering life, Gabe begins having imaginary conversations with his hero, Abraham Lincoln. But things take a disturbing turn when Gabe starts to believe Honest Abe is actually communicating with him from the grave, encouraging Gabe to make a name for himself by prosecuting Hollywood heartthrob Chad Tibbs for a crime he didn't commit. Gabe doesn't want to let Abe down, but with a mark as rich and powerful as Chad Tibbs, Gabe knows he can't go it alone. Fortunately, a cute barista at the local coffee shop is in love with Gabe and would make the perfect accomplice. Unfortunately, however, Gabe is about to find out that even the best laid plans of mice and men (and of one-legged prosecutors, cute baristas, and dead presidents) can go terribly awry.
