Synopsis
Sum Swamp Addition and Subtraction Game
Sum Swamp Addition and Subtraction Game
Sum Swamp Addition and Subtraction Game

Boring math practice bogging you down? Sum Swamp takes players (and their swamp critters) on a math journey full of twists, turns, and hilarious pitfalls. Venture over the crocodile shortcut and through the swamp to the finish by adding and subtracting numbers on the dice. Designed for two to four players, Sum Swamp has players navigate the endless loop until a lucky throw lands them on the space marked "exit."

Add and Subtract Yourself Out

Sum Swamp will introduce your child to numbers and the basic operations of addition and subtraction. Players roll all three dice and create a number sentence by placing the highest number first, the operation symbol second, and the smallest number last. The player then adds or subtracts the numbers, and moves ahead the sum or difference. The "even" or "odd" spaces on the board help players learn about the even and odd categories in the number system. Learning addition and subtraction is much more fun when you're wading through the swamp.

Sum Swamp Story Time

Take a break from math and engage children in storytelling. Use the critters that come with the package or find other pieces to suit your story line. Encourage your child to participate by making the game pieces the actors in a story line about their journey through the swamp. Through game flow and board illustrations, Sum Swamp provides a playful context for enhancing storytelling, conversation, and turn-taking etiquette. The game board provides a defined play space that allows children to focus their attention.

Kids will have a terrific time learning math skills as they avoid the hilarious pitfalls of the Sum Swamp. Designed for two to four players, this game is sure to develop and sharpen beginning math skills, because the only way to escape the mire is to roll the dice and add and subtract your way around the board. If you're lucky, you'll be able to take the Crocodile Short Cut, although sooner or later everyone gets caught in the Endless Loop. Landing on special squares, such as Even or Odds or a number space, makes things even more interesting; you could get stuck for quite a while. The best part is that this is a game kids can grow with--children 5 to 6 will find it a learning challenge, and older kids can play for fun. The game is an Oppenheim Best Toy award winner. --Marianne Painter
