Editorial Reviews:
Synopsis
Herman Melville's classic novel edited by Alfred Kazin. Although Melville had early success as a writer, he all but ended his career as an author by the time he was 35 years old due to lost readership of his writing. He worked for 19 years in Customs in New York City and died forgotten in 1891 at the age of 62. It wasn't until the 1920s that his novel "Moby Dick" was viewed as a classic by critics and his work "Billy Budd" wasn't published until 33 years after his death.
