Library of America edition of Walt Whitman's complete poetry, and sections called "Complete Prose" and "Supplementary Prose", apparently works not collected in the former volume from 1892.
Whitman (1819-1892) started as a war correspondent and later served as a medic in the Civil War and his poem "When Lilacs Last in Dooryard Bloom'd" was written in response to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
