The purpose of this special issue on Lacan and group is to present, in their own words, the work of therapists who adapted what they found illuminating and helpful in Lacanian thought. Theory plays a role, of course, in stimulating practice, but practice requires that theory be tested, perhaps transformed. So these articles represent transformations of a body of thought that, even if it is not as dominant as in Europe, maintains in the United States a distinctive profile in a diverse field.
