Jack Kerouac's classic "On the Road" is a fast paced semi-autobiographical novel based on the travels of Kerouac and his friends across America. It is considered a defining work of the post-war Beat Generation with its protagonists living life against a backdrop of jazz, poetry and drug use. Set in post World War II America, a time when few strayed far from their birthplace, On the Road chronicles alcohol and drug-fueled adventures and misadventures as Kerouac's characters set out in search of enlightenment.
