Synopsis
Pocket Poets#13, City Lights 1960, 300 copies, hardbound red cover. One of a kind and highly desirable hand painted association copy, issued without a dust jacket. Poet, writer and artist FN Wright was a very close friend of Kenneth Patchen's wife Miriam and painted the cover of this copy of Love Poems as a gift to Miriam. This book was returned to Wright by the Patchen estate following Miriam's death. FN and the Patchens were avid baseball fans, which is why the cover painting has a baseball theme. A Brooklyn Dodger's fan, Miriam's TV was left unplugged in Patchen's workroom until baseball season.
Sometime in the early 60's Wright began combining poetry with art. "Psychedelic" art(mostly in the way of posters and handbills) caught his eye and a friend(after seeing what he was doing)turned him onto Kenneth Patchen. Wright was encouraged to find someone else doing something similar. He eventually began corresponding with the Patchens and this would lead to a liftime friendship with Miriam after Kenneth passed away. FN Wright is an author of three novels and has had paintings and writings published with Bottle of Smoke Press, Xray Books and elsewhere and read his work at Beyond Baroque.
I am FN Wright's daugher and acquired this book as part of estate.
