The Dream Songs

Series of poems by John Berryman, a major American poet of mid 20th century. This volume combines his 77 Dream Songs& His Toy, His Dream, His Rest which comprise Books I-VII of Dream Songs, begun in 1955. They center on a white middle-aged American named Henry "sometimes in blackface, who has suffered an irreversible loss & talks about himself...he has a friend, never named, who addresses him as Mr Bones and variants thereof" from Berryman's Note preceding the poems.
