FIRST EDITION (so stated) of the Author's First Book. Harcourt Brace and Company, NY, 1942. Octavo, 82 pp. Red cloth with black (or very dark blue) lettering on spine. Would be FINE but for slight sun-bleaching to cloth along the extreme top edge of rear board and where dust jacket is chipped at head of spine and for an additional 12/16th of an inch at top of rear board. Book is tight and clean with just a hint of toning to pastedowns and endpapers; overall book is VERY GOOD+ to NEAR FINE; in a VERY GOOD+ (unclipped) dust jacket with light edgewear and two small chips at foot of backstrip panel, and a single 1& 1/2-inch long by 1/2-inch deep chip (at its deepest) at the head of the backstrip panel and extending over onto top edge of the rear panel; rear panel is slightly toned and slightly soiled; original price, "$2.00" intact on front flap.
