It has occurred to me that my notes jotted down through the years might help other student husbands. All of them have been printed before in publications available to the general as well as the scholarly reader, but they are here gathered together for the first time, presented in rough chronological order. Most of them are the result of long and earnest observation of the endearing but baffling feminine charm of one wife in particular and the equally baffling non-masculine peculiarities of many wives in general. I believe that the myopia and obtuseness of the observer increase rather than decrease the value of his notes. In the matter of wives, to know all is to be forgiven nothing. An occasionally lucky guess as to what makes a wife tick is the best a man can hope for, and even then, no sooner has he learned how to cope with the tick than she tocks. She is also likely to strike 11 at 6 o'clock and turnout to be right because she was thinking in terms of Paris time.
There are no conclusions, but the endless search for knowledge has been an exceptionally happy one. The same, dear fellow students, to you.
