He is considered the leader of what is called the Harlem Renaissance. His first poetry collection, The Weary Blues, was published in 1926. His first prose, the novel Not without Laughter, was originally published in 1930. The sale volume is the Westvaco edition from Christmas 1997 with no additional printings listed. Paper boards with plaid window pattern in yellow and orange; black cloth at spine with gold lettering. Binding clean, bright, tight and square with no flaws. Slip case used the same plaid window pattern. Absolutely no flaws to slip case. 326 pages plus forward by Henry Louis Gates Jr. and a catalog of other titles by Westvaco.
