Editorial Reviews:
Synopsis
As Frodo and Sam carry the One Ring to Mordor to destroy it, the Dark Lord's power grows, in this third volume of The Lord of the Rings, while the remaining members of the quest prepare to defend the fortress city of Minas Tirith against Sauron's armies of Ring-wraiths, orcs, and mercenaries. Originally published in the 1950s, the three volumes form a single saga of Middle-earth, hailed as "a unique, wholly realized other world, evoked from deep in the well of time, massively detailed, absorbingly entertaining, profound in meaning" (NYTBR). This final book includes Tolkien's extensive appendices and index, and features a foil-stamped cover image taken from his own drawings.
