Among the rain
and lights
I saw the figure 5
in gold
on a red
firetruck
moving
tense
unheeded
to gong clangs
siren howls
and wheels rumbling
through the dark city.

I love this poem. It shows how to communicate an image and a feeling in a small number of carefully chosen words. Several years ago, in New York City, there was a wonderful exhibit at the Whitney Museum of Art entitles "William Carlos Williams and the American Mind".
