HAVE READ LOTS OF POEMS, BUT THIS ONE IS OUT STANDING. THE WAY WHITMAN
EXPANDS ON EACH PART OF POETRY, ie Imagery, tone, IT IS AMAZING.

This poem shows a great amount of examples of what inspirations came upon
him. His idea of music is inspiring!

I like how in the poem nature and love makes the young boy realize that he
too wants to make songs/poems like the ones he begins hearing

Love is such a POWERFUL EMOTION and yet it can be so fragile.The presence
of your loved one can give you strength and the absence can drive you
insane and doubt your own existence !

I loved this poem back in High School when I read it and used it for a
forensics project. I also was moved by the pain and the power of the
wordage in this peice, almost at times like the waves themselves. One of
my favorites of his.

the only comment one can make is...listen..and not just to the mockingbird
and Whitman..to the Sea..to the old gray mother whispering "Death".
because this is not just about the awakening soul of the poet but of the
enlightened being and what life Here means...

Please ignore that other comment from "Alexis hart" This poem is no nusery
rhyme. I suggest diagnosing the poem before reading through it. It triggers
great emotion, and appeals to those who favour intellectual poetry.

this poem would be so much better if it wasnt 5 pages long...the man should
have a very short word limit. it is a great poem but far too long

The beauty and grace of this poem moves even the toughest heart. Whitman's
pain is so powerful. This beautifully composed poem brings out Whitman's
genius. He ties nature to man so wonderfully. I adore it!!!
