I agree with Chris. This poem is very moving and beautiful. I am falling in love with all of Stephen Crane's poems. He is one of the most poetic poets I've ever heard of. He is very intellegant and I would one day, love to meet this fine fellow. It would also be an honor to write so incredable like him.

I believe this poem is about a man who is in love with a certain woman who, unlike him, has participated in sinister things, causing her afterlife to be consumed in Hell. Yet he refuses to travel to the "soft gardens" of Heaven until he waits for his loved one to come back to him from the Hell that she was placed in when both lovers died. The poem is moving and very symbolistic about strong love.
