There never was a mood of mine,
Gay or heart-broken, luminous or dull,
But you could ease me of its fever
And give it back to me more beutiful.
In many another soul I broke the bread,
And drank the wine and played the happy guest,
But I was lonely, I remembered you;
The heart belong to him who knew it best.

    Kay is correct. You can know if you read her biography. It isnt about Christ. This is a beautiful poem and is so very true.

    well i might be wrong, and i don not know anything about sara Teasdale, but i believe that he poem is a allusion to crist. i came to this conclusion when she mentioned the bread and wine, and the way her moods were made better. (even when happy) feel free to diagree with me though.

  4. Kay says:

    I think this poem is written about Vahcel who was Sara’s first love and whom she choose not to marry. In a love less marriage, it was her longing for life with him that fueled the inspiration for her poem.
