 ( 2012.02.17 20:26 ) : I must voice my affection for your knidness
supporting those who have the need for help with this particular issue.
Your very own commitment to getting the message all through had been
?remarkably important and have usually helped regular people just like me
to attain their dreams. Your invaluable publication means a lot to me and
somewhat more to my colleagues. Thank you; from all of us.

I’d be happy to clar

I’d be happy to clarify my potsoiins. Yes, daycare for an infant is
inherently more expensive, and theoretically the cost drops as your kid
ages. Except, they don’t, because rates go up annually, so while in the
year from 9/1/11-8/31/12 I’ll be paying 244 a week for my infant, I’ll
still be paying about that much for my toddler because the rates will go up
again. So its basically a washAs far as someone running a daycare in their
home, I do realize that there is state oversight. I think that’s
something that is 100% necessary. But the thing is, you’re still the
boss. You don’t have a supervisor, or someone from the state coming in
and checking every couple of hours to make sure everything is on the up and
up. If you choose to have Days of Our Lives and Maury Povich on, well,
it’s your house, and there’s no one to tell you that maybe those shows
are not appropriate for small children to be watching. And you may provide
an alternate provider when you’re sick, but what if I don’t like her,
what if she’s not convenient? And my day care has never shut down due to
an illness outbreak. If my kid is sick, I stay home (generally because
I’ve got it too at that point) but the center remains open for all the
kids who’ve already had it, or who don’t have it.And I’m sure you
give notice when you’re going on vacation. But my work schedule often
precludes me from jaunting off in the summer for a week or two. I also
don’t like to travel in the summer. Also my husband travels for work,
sometimes with little more than a days notice that he needs to hop on a
plane and be away for 4 weeks. So what happens if he suddenly leaves and
you’re vacation in planned… well I’m up a creek. A daycare center
doesn’t do that. Aside from regular holidays, it’s closed one Friday
in August for a staff development day. Also, at the inhome providers we
looked at not a single one had just one age group. There was always quite
a mix. And in some cases I think that’s great. You can have siblings in
one place. ( and what if you have a four year old and an infant? You need
to go to two different providers, that seems ridiculous). We were also
laughed out of half the homes that we went to when I was 5 months along and
told to come back after the baby is born, since they wouldn’t hold a
spot for 8 months til I went back to work. The center took my reservation
right then. Frankly I didn’t want it hanging over my head when I went
into my maternity leave and I’m glad I didn’t wait since we spent the
first month in the NICU and the added stress of child care would have sent
me over the edge.As far as the teenagers go, I too, was a good kid. But I
also know that I wasn’t always so careful about my language or topics.
And heaven forbid I had friends over, it might be worse. Kids are little
sponges and while I know they are going to pick things up eventually I
don’t think my 2 or three year old needs to hear about hooking up or
crushes, or kissing, or any curse words ( which even good kids use when mom
and dad aren’t around)
