nice job frost

i love this poem. Its using fireflies to symbolize symbolism and using
stars to symbolize the real thing. He's stating that symbolism is limited
in meaning just as the fireflies are limited in their attempt to "emulate"
larger stars.

Of a starlike start they are accused
as if a star was ever used
to combat cancer, or to lure
phosphorescent mate, secure.

Since when were fireflies meant to stay?
They propagate and fly away
and now you cannot find them in
a single field or north woodland.

I'm not a literary critic or anything, but I enjoy this poem. I first saw
it on the New York subway as part of its "Poetry in Motion" series. I like
its simple AAABBB rhyme scheme, its Frostian iambic pentameter, and its
easy, objective stance. That's all.
