Analysis and comments on Now Close the Windows by Robert Frost

Comment 5 of 5, added on November 24th, 2008 at 11:57 PM.

This poem by Robert Frost is about the persona separating himself from the
outside world through the act of "closing the windows". Be it a literal or
metaphoric interpretation, it shows deliberate intention on the part of the
persona. Using the various literary devices, this analysis will seek to
explain the key issues of this poem.

The poem shows deliberate separation of the persona from the secular world.
The persona is aware of the on goings outside his window, but refuses to
partake in them. Instead, he chooses separation through the act of
"clos[ing] the windows". This phrase is repeated twice in the passage,
reflecting on the persona's intention to keep himself away from the
outside.

The persona's awareness of his surroundings is blurred in his mind.
Although awareness of his surroundings is shown, it reflects a very
haphazard scope on his part. He reflects uncertainty about whether or on
the "birds [are] singing, and if there is/Be it my loss". The tone of the
persona reflects an uncaring and semi-conscious attitude to his
surroundings.

OK, I'm done:) Tell me what you think!

This song reminds me of night time when everything is settling down. and it
reminds me of hope like having hope that tomorrow these things will be
doing the same thing:)

I don't know why this poem made me think of a politician that wants to hide
while everything settles after a turmoil caused by him.You know, no birds
singing might be no one talking.
