"The Dog" is one of 20 short poems by Ogden Nash that are included in a collection titled, Ogden Nash's Musical Zoo. They are set to music - solo line with poano accompaniment - by Vernon Duke, and the set was published by General Music Publishing; copyright 1947. I purchased this set of songs approximately 40 years ago. I will be singing 6 of the songs at a poem reading session at a local church this evening.
They are delightful vocal settings, amusing and fun to sing. Of the 20 songs, I've chosen to sing "The Fly", "The Termite", "The Dog", "The Germ", "The Pigeon" and "The Frog": about 5 minutes worth of music. Hopefully, the songs will be enjoyed by others in attendance.
