When I get to be a composer
I’m gonna write me some music about
Daybreak in Alabama
And I’m gonna put the purtiest songs in it
Rising out of the ground like a swamp mist
And falling out of heaven like soft dew.
I’m gonna put some tall tall trees in it
And the scent of pine needles
And the smell of red clay after rain
And long red necks
And poppy colored faces
And big brown arms
And the field daisy eyes
Of black and white black white black people
And I’m gonna put white hands
And black hands and brown and yellow hands
And red clay earth hands in it
Touching everybody with kind fingers
And touching each other natural as dew
In that dawn of music when I
Get to be a composer
And write about daybreak
In Alabama.
I didn’t like this poem at first but i got better as i read it. the feel the world should be all equal in sense that blacks and whites and etc are treated the same.
I think that this poems is an inspiration to musicians
I think this poem is what the world needs. I like How the tittle really sets us up for the exsplaination of this poem. A new way a new beginning. I also really like the emphasis on black and white and how racist the world really is and how it needs to be changed
i love this poem so much
I love how this poem represents what the world should be like and how everyone no matter their race will be treated the same. It’s not my favorite Langston Hughes poem but nonetheless, I do like it.
I love this poem!!!! that is exactly the way the world needs to be! he hit this poem on the spot!!1 one day his dream will come true, people will have to see the light!
i really enjoyed this poem.I live in Alabama and I know that although people may not see eye to eye, they still try to make the best of things. God made each and every one of us different, whether it be our skin color or something as simple as our favorite foods. In this poem Hughes has definately showed us that we should unite and be as one. I absolutely love this poem.
