Those final Creatures, — who they are —
That, faithful to the close,
Administer her ecstasy,
But just the Summer knows.
Those final Creatures, — who they are —
That, faithful to the close,
Administer her ecstasy,
But just the Summer knows.

This poem is beautiful I think when reading dickinson people should remember that she is one of the best poets who ever lived undisputably. She is saying so much in these four lines; one must also realize this was written shortly before emilys death. shes saying the “final creatures” we create poetically the final thoughts and storys of our imagination. and “who they are” is such an endless thing to dote upon and imagine upon. “But just the Summer knows” thats beautiful at this present time i cannot say comptently what it means as i read this poem this morning and cared to comment on it online. the ciccadas and crickets may have a very subliminal atmosphere creating meaning as Larry Syldan said but true comprehension of what that line means is endless. That endless interpatation is the magic emily sought for. not that she wasnt clear in her mind. she contemplated a poems subliminal ideas but the true feeling moment and idea is preserved in the poem for her posterity, us to unveil and enjoy
The poem concerns the cicadas and crickets and such that close the summer. They are the final creatures.
I like this poem and perhaps it’s because I like Emily Dickinson. The thing with this poem is that I can’t quite put my finger on the meaning. It seems ellusive but maybe that’s just me.
