This poem by Emily is a rhymed couplet of eight syllables in each line.Adelaide Crapsey(famed for the cinquain)developed the couplet form into another image form-which style with her poem ‘ON SEEING WEATHER-BEATEN TREES which I have labelled an American doublet ..it is a rhymed couplet of ten syllables per line with an integral title.The Scottish poet Willam Soutar also wrote many short poems in the American doublet style.
For some reason I notice that Adelaide Crapsey is not listed here on this site.
Emily wrote a dozen or so untitled couplets as this site reveals,some rhymed and others unrhymed most notably 212;730;3166A;1707.
