Emily Dickinson - If she had been the Mistletoe

If she had been the Mistletoe
And I had been the Rose --
How gay upon your table
My velvet life to close --
Since I am of the Druid,
And she is of the dew --
I'll deck Tradition's buttonhole --
And send the Rose to you.

i liked this poem i didn't really understand it but then i reread it and i guess her poem means that a misletoe isn't the only thing that makes people feel for eachother on x-mas and she would like to get rid of that tradition. things should be loved year round and a mistletoe just feeds off the host. yeah that's what i understood.
