Emily Dickinson - I would distil a cup

I would distil a cup,
And bear to all my friends,
Drinking to her no more astir,
By beck, or burn, or moor!

Emily Dickinson preferred mystery and originality in her poems. Here, she seems to be expressing patriotism for the US in preference to her family's origin in the UK. Beck is a small ( north ) English stream and burn means the same in Scotland. Moor is a wild, open and hilly area of British grassland. Indeed, Dickinson is an old English family name.

Whoever posted that first comment is a reteard! If I feel that she is a crackhead, I'll say that, period! And while im on that same note, I'l say whatever I damn well want!

I do not know why you guys do not screen the comments made on some of the poems here, but for anyone to say that Miss Dickinson was a "crackhead" is obscene, and does not need to take away from the wonerment of this poem. Only someone with no soul, would be able to make that kind of comment anyway. And I really am not sure why he is reading her poems if that is how he feels. Thank you.
