In this short Life
That only lasts an hour
How much -- how little -- is
Within our power

Personally I think that Emily is referring to the insignificance of life. We are only here for a very short time in the eyes of eternity, hence the "hour" statement; and she is saying that we should live life the way that we choose to because before we know it we will be gone and the human race will move on without us, as much as we would like to think that it won't.

i think emily is saying we only have one life with one body so treat it well and karma will find its way back around! :)
