This poem is about Emilyís thoughts and emotive responses to societies
careless actions, she explores how a single word can effect a wider society
for generations. This is an interesting poem as she uses infectious disease
references thus emphasising the speed and length at which these
ramifications occur. Itís quote ironic that she chooses to write a poem
about such a topic as her life revolves around the perfections of her
poetry (which is offcourse words on a page) and thus her words have
effected future generations.

CLEARLY, this is a poem about finding a cure for malaria. And, Dickinson
makes it pretty CLEAR that the cure is poetry.
