Analysis and comments on Love -- is anterior to Life -- by Emily Dickinson

Comment 4 of 4, added on December 26th, 2006 at 7:00 AM.

I am not an expert on Dickenson or her work, but should not the last line
read "(...) exponent of breath" (as opposed to "(...) exponent of earth") ?

When you look at it, there is no way to stop love. You can love someone
even if they hate you. Everyone needs to love someone otherwise there is no
reason for us to live.

I think that this poem refers to love in connection to life. It is
ever-present; it does not have a starting point, nor does it end. According
to Dickinson in this poem, love is eternal.

Love--is anterior to Life. I believe that while Dickinson was writting this
poem. She wanted people to know that every time she created a new poem was
a new beggining. "Initial of creation.
