American composer, Aaron Copeland, set this poem to music (vocal with
orchestra) and it is fantastic- really helps me understand some of
Dickinson's poems in a new way. Listen to it! It seems that she often
uses elements from nature to portray her feelings about death and the
process of passing. Because I can experience all senses in nature (touch,
taste, smell, sight, sound, etc.)- it makes her poems more sensory, as
death truly is. She was anticipating every aspect of death and returning
to dust.
