To Emily:
O, sweetest Emily,
Why trouble there should be
I, like you, once was a child
And the heavens were in me
Inside I felt a world
Of men and cars and trees
And birds crossing the sees
All tumbling inside me;
The fears need not be proved
And turned to agony.
As I bolted into that world
That once was inside me
Saw my heaven and yours
It lurks outside and pours
So sleep my Emily
The dream in you and me.
