Silence is thus marble.

Roses
Roses are roses
Beautiful in every way,
They have many emphasis
On each and every day,
They are calisthenics
Who flutter at the say,
They are more beautiful then callipsis
Wich may have grown in cambrai,
roses are roses
And there is nothing more you can say.

It is interesting to see a poem about silence in e.e. cummings' collection. Many of his poems defy reading aloud--can only be experienced on the page; a complete contrast to the orignal intention of poetry, a form intended to be aural. In a world so full of noise, it is a wonder to find such silence as one finds, watching a pecking bird the moment before snow begins to fall. I think this is as important as any literal meaning of the poem.
