The fact that people are known for saying "don't stop" during sex.... it's
obvious that this isn't about rape. and the fact that cummings has had
numerous affairs and marriages, it's also pretty obvious that this could be
about one of his affairs.
I read this poem for the first time in my english class, and i didn't
understand a bit of it. Then i actually read it, it's amazing how cummings
can make you feel while reading these short 4 line, 8 stanzas. it makes you
look at things so much differently.

this poem is about a man cheating on his wife. The women is being coy and
is nervous to get caught but the man just wants an affair.
they are not in love, and no one is raped
is a hot poem but the basic meaning of it is basic and deceitful

Read the poem three time first, then comment about! This poem is not about
rape, its more about him trying to get the woman to make love or sex with
him. In the first stanza, he asking if he can feel on her. Than in the 2nd
stanza, he asks her again if he can touch her and she says why not. Then
later on she tells him not to stop and go slower. The last thing she says
he is divine. Divine means: godlike; characteristic of or befitting a
deity. So why would people think it's about rape??? Now everyone have a
nice day.

Personally, I can feel the poem when reading it. In this way, the poem
seems a reality. You know, being involved makes the poem alive and real!

I don't believe this is about rape.
I think it's about someone making love for the first time but being
nervous.

I am honestly horrified at some of these comments. I perceive this poem to
be about rape. Pay attention to the parenthesis. "dont stop said she"
(remember that e e cummings leaves out necessary punctuation), I believe,
means, "Don't. Stop. said she."

The rythym of this poem is amazing and truely captures the climatic
feelings, at least thats what I think. Im not big on adultery, but such is
life.
