this poem says that if you love a person, you can't replace it, it shows when violet rejects when lily offers the guy's brother, obviously lily is being blunt and stupid. violet likes the guy, but the guy likes lily. this poem shows the complexity of love. lilies are also very much bigger than violets by size and have more fragrance than violets, which may mean that in this poem the girl lily is a bold girl, a girl who stands out more than violet

This poem is about how we, as humans, approach love. How we look at looks more than personality. He choses girls with flowers names because we look at flowers for their beauty and not what they do.

The poem represents that goodness and kindness do not equate to power and monopoly, but only momentary and fleeting recognition.
