We are missing the point. I am whatever I was made me but more importantly,
We are dwelling on the details of was and should be shouting the is of now
because everything around us is changing and what was, was and what is now
is more important. We are.

I think that the poem basically reflects an age-old saying: "what doesn't
kill ya only makes ya stronger." I think cummings is basically trying to
say that we go through many hardships in life, but each one helps us to
grow and become better and stronger, that, in fact, hardships are necesary.
They build character.
