Here, I feel, the author, is explaining her walk down the busy street in
which she grew up and the different personalities she sees along her walk.
Her otherwise quaint neighbourhood has taken on an 'Urban Environment' thus
annihilating her conventional culture. Edna prays to god almighty to
restore the harmony of her quaint surroundings.
