I interpreted this to mean, a lover asks his woman to choose between a fifteen year relationship or a forty year relationship.
My wife and I chose forty or longer, hopefully.
We named our hand-painted clothing business
Babytoes Clothing. We did it for 37 years. We are retired and still together. Her first name, as in the poem, is Janet. We even got a federal trademark for Babytoes Clothing.
