A few years in the middle of Bush's Wars, I found this wonderful Sandburg
poem that tells it all about war. I sent comments and excerpts of the poem
to various newspapers, but couldn't get a single comment published. I guess
this fits with the poem. Alas, now we have Obama, who I had great hopes
for, and the warmongers, arms magnates, Wall Street and the insurance
companies have completely distorted his reform efforts and attempts to end
the Middle East wars. Have guts, Obama, and confront these liars and
antidemocratic forces.

I am an old guy who just moved from Oregon to the highlands of Chiapas in
San Cristobal. A breath of fresh air. The poem Liars to me says everything
about current US foreign policy and many other aspects of our national
life. Power and wealth corrupt, in the end, absolutely.
Since 2002 I have been writing e-mails and letters to the editor against
the Iraqi War and few got through.
I sent shorter excerpts of Liars and none got published.
Now the poem is more apropo than ever, now that the public has finally
turned against the war, has the scales off their eyes, and Bush and other
leaders continue to lie, deceive and defy the popular will.
