This poem is not emo! That is such a horrendous word, do not ever use it
describing one of Sandburg's works because you obviously do not acquire the
higher intellectual level needed to appreciate great literature. This poem
portrays an individual in the working class witholding an occupation of a
bricklayer. This bricklayer is either lusting after, or in love with
another who has greatly affected this person's life. The love that the
worker has for this certain someone is so strong that the way they work,
the way they sing, and whatever they think about is now all revolving
around that one person. The situation of this sorrowful romance is one in
which many people around the world encounter, and usually does not end in a
joyful note.
