I heard this poem in a recorded lecture given by Scott Peck.He was speaking on the subject of death and dying.
a class I was leading on the same subject.
It inspired me to write this bit of verse:
Perspective
I met a distinguished looking man
on a train headed west.
He asked me where I was going.
I answered, "To meet my Lord and Savior,
on streets paved with gold."
He cringed at my reply;
no more did he want to hear.
Then a smile crossed his face,
asking me in a most friendly way,
"Are you going to Omaha?"

i read this poem in high school 40 years ago. i still remember it and finally looked it up again. i had thought the title was omaha, but that is another one of carl's poems. i think this is a great poem, quit modern for mr. sanburg.
