The Basket by Amy Lowell

This poem seems to be about a cold and dark night that is obviously wet
with ice cycles hanging from the roof tops. It addresses the color of the
night by being compared to the color of the flower geraniums. It is about
how the moon highlihts the beauty of ice and make it shine and glistens
ever so beautifully! There is possibly a cascade of flower vines that grow
on the side of fences or houses that possess beautiful blossoms. They flow
as though they were plucked and laid in a basket to be put it a vase for
display.

I can see the person looking at out the window at flowers that were once in
full bloom until the ice came. He watches until the sun began to rise
casting a different light and view of the outdoor scenery. It might even be
around Christmas or Thanksgiving.

This could be a story of a man who has writers block and began to drift
into another world to relax his mind.

And of course this entire episode possibly reminds him of a person whom he
dearly loved but did not love him in return. Therefore he is pinning for
her and trying to handle the rejection.
