The Stolen Statu(t)e:
The thief on stealthy tiptoes and hiding shadow
Haunts the sanctity of silent sanctuary
Enticed by the bronze and marble statutes,
Seized the dormant mood of placid visitors,
Threads of early morning rays shed no light
On the black hand outstretching invisibly,
Leans down the shadow and reads the statute,
Enthralled in the beauty and incomprehensibility,
Not his petty mind will toil and decipher
Statutes of hidden truth in hazy complexity
Teasing some delvers in glowing pages,
And others frown in disinterest and go.
The thief’s hand and heart too frail to carry
Unto small minds hard bronze and marble;
To them the thing is mere ornamental
End it in silent graveyard of the mental
Only you my singing old bird hold its secret
Funny, stern, jovial and augurous
And lugubrious in your wings all strenuous
Long days and nights woven in the net
Trading sister’s words in marble she’ll not forget
As she exposes the rosy flower words
In hasty grab your mind and heart and soul shake
Read and dig for diamonds never ever fake
Lots of words and titles cram in the conceit
All tweeting which will take strong hold of it
At the marble only one digs and bores through
Hence the statute is ready to kiss and throw
At infinite visitors, admirers and petty thieves
Dream my statute, dream, none of them perceives.
