My heart is heavy with many a song
Like ripe fruit bearing down the tree, 
But I can never give you one --
My songs do not belong to me.

Yet in the evening, in the dusk
When moths go to and fro,
In the gray hour if the fruit has fallen,
Take it, no one will know.

Poet: Sara Teasdale Poem: My Heart Is Heavy Comment 3 of 3, added on June 27th, 2007 at 3:23 AM. I think this poem is saying that her heart belongs to a song; her partner. She is saying she cannot give you her heart, as it doesnt belong to her, someone already has it. I think she is saying that her heart is being weighed down by committment and she caves in, and the fruit (her heart) has fallen from the tree and she allows someone else to take it.
